Looking for answers to your questions?

You are likely to have a refractive error called myopia. You have to wear glasses or contact lenses or consider LASIK after 18 years.

You might have cataracts in both eyes. It is an age-related process wherein the lens inside the eyes loses its transparency, resulting in dimness of vision. In early stages, it can be corrected with spectacles. If it is not clear, then cataract surgery should be done with IOL implantation.

It is an advanced technique of cataract surgery using ultrasound energy. It is done under topical eye drops, no injection needed. Rigid IOLs need a 5.5 mm incision, but nowadays we use foldable IOL using a 1.8 – 2.2 mm incision. It is either Indian or imported. It is customized according to the needs of each patient. It is a day care procedure and there is no need to stay in the hospital. It is done under topical eye drops, totally painless. You can take rest for 1 week and attend regular works after that.

Yes, diabetes weakens retinal vessels and leakage of protein and blood takes place. It distorts the retinal structure and hence you have defective vision. Hence, diabetic patients should have an eye checkup once a year. Retinal evaluation is done to assess the damage. An OCT scan can be helpful in early stages. Good control of diabetes is enough. If there is more damage, laser should be done. If there is edema, intravitreal injection might help.

It is first necessary to assess the degree of deviation and time of squint. Vision should be checked and proper glasses should be given. If the squint is persistent, it may need surgery.

Glaucoma is a disease in which the intraocular pressure is high. Usually, it affects the elderly and runs in families. It is associated with visual field loss. If diagnosed early, it can be treated with eye drops and laser. If advanced, it needs surgery. Rarely, children also are affected as congenital glaucoma due to genetic and developmental anomalies.

All metallic foreign bodies will develop an infection in the eye. It will erode the cornea and produce edema and may even lose vision. Inert foreign body may be dormant except for irritation. But all foreign bodies should be removed.
